About the Artist

What parts of yourself do you owe to your duty, to your history, and to your identity? This is the question that motivates so much of the work of Myosoto. A butch Punjabi artist and chronic hobby haver, Myosoto lives on the stolen territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations, colonially known as “Vancouver.”They explore this question through art that evokes the stories of characters, creatures, and the natural world. They find art to be a healing practice, particularly when exploring the personhood of the dehumanized, and the non-human.Myosoto has recently been working with monstrous subjects a lot in their art, as them and their partner (@priceofbrie) work to develop a tabletop role-playing game about women transformed into supernatural creatures by breaking gender roles in a gothic society. This has helped provide the space to explore the link between lesbianism and perceived monstrosity. You can check out their work at @myosoto on Instagram.
